If you're seeking a unique vintage experience, Peninsula Park in Portland is a must-visit. Acquired by the city in 1908, this park stands as a testament to the city's rich history. Its most captivating feature is the rose garden, a hidden gem nestled below street level, offering a tranquil escape from the city's hustle and bustle.
Beyond the enchanting rose garden, Peninsula Park boasts a wealth of historical elements that transport visitors to the early 20th century. The original fountain, intricate brick walkways, early 20th-century street lamps, and octagonal music bandstand all overlook the garden, creating a vintage-styled oasis for those seeking respite from the city's modernity. It's a perfect setting for engagement photos in 2024.
“Coquette” stylish ideas in the rose garden
As if it was taken out of Bridgerton, the fountain in the Rose Garden is a great option for those who want their pictures inspired, like the Regency era in the XIX century. The park's elegant sunken rose garden was designed in 1912 in the style of a formal French parterre knot garden. Making it a great option not only for Victorian-inspired outfits like the “coquette” style but also for more modern outfits matching the French vibing of the architecture, like those seen in independent french movies, oh lalá!
The gardens surround the wide central fountain and are also meant for strolling, ideally under a parasol. Seeing a sunset in this area is truly a lovable experience! So, if you are looking for a spot to take engagement photos for yourself or your brand, this is a cool place to do it.
Vintage folks will love it!
The early 20th-century architecture of the whole park is also a great option for those who love the architecture of the 1900s; this 16-acre park was home to a private roadhouse, a horse racing track and an auto park owned by a businesswoman called Elizabeth Young (also known as “Liverpool Liz”). Right after the city purchased all the parks.
Young developed as part of Portland's “City Beautiful” movement. Peninsula Park became the site of the city's first community center and one of its first public playgrounds. Still conserving at this time some of its original architecture, like its early 20th-century lamps.
Today, the park features an outdoor swimming pool, tennis courts, horseshoe pits, baseball diamonds, and basketball courts. It also has reservable covered picnic areas for intimate meetings, granting you special moments with friends and family
